Mountaineers

Have you ever heard of the Mountaineers? No not those Mountaineers of West Virginia but the Mountaineers of Appalachian State. These Mountaineers won the NCAA DIV.I FCS National Championship three times (2005-2007). They also upset DIV I University of Michigan in the big house in 2007. That in itself is incredible. Last Saturday the 5th, they came within an eyelash of beating East Carolina in Greenville. After falling behind 27-7 at half-time Travarius Cadet replaced an ineffective D. Presley and directed three scoring drives but lost 24-29. The big story on this team is the quarterback that did not play Saturday, Armanti Edwards. He was the Walter Payton award winner in 2008 and should finish this year second only to Steve McNair’s 16,823 yards on the FCS all-time total offense list. He did not play last week because of a foot injury sustained in a lawn mower accident during the summer. He will start this Saturday against McNeese State. I’ll try to watch the game or at least post a brief of the game next week.
