Who will the Wizards draft? Will they trade Arenas? The answer to the second question is no. the first is Wall. Who is going to take on a 80 million dollar contract? NO one! I truly believe his behavior will be in check but that’s a lot of money to gamble with. Can you believe that what has taken place in the last year and one-half in D.C. with Arenas and guns that a fan has asked the new owner to consider changing the Wizards name back to the BULLETS? That’s rampant brain damage. Let’s just hope it does not creep onto the hard-court. The Wizards will draft Wall and let him run the point and Agent Zero will be the shooting guard. They will light up the scoreboard but they must play defense and prevent penetration into the middle where they are weak. If Flip can get this team to play defense, they can improve immensely. Don’t forget that the Wizards have an assistant coach that will be of great value in the development of John Wall. Learning the adjustment of point guard from the college game to the NBA is vital for Wall and Sam Cassell will help. Wall will find out at this level everybody is fast. If this back court is successful and the team as a whole shows marked improvement, in 5 to 7 years Sam may start to get some interviews. This year more assistant coaches are moving up more than ever, which is a good thing. I agree with Jon Barry enough with the same old coaches failing in situation after situation only to be hired to fail again. Don’t take my word for it, check the record books. It’s time for those long time assistants to get their opportunities instead of the college coaches.
The team that I see that has the opportunity to break thru is the Philadelphia 76’ers. I’m really curious to see their draft. My advice is draft Evans and run him and Holiday in the back court. Keep Brand, Iguodala and Dalembert and run, run, run. They got the rebounding and youth to back it up, also a great coach. How can you run the Princeton offense with the talent they have. This is the NBA not the Atlantic Ten.Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-47366801185065524592010-06-09T19:55:00.004-04:002010-06-09T20:38:30.054-04:00Free agent PollFREE AGENT POLL

Players Present Team First Choice Team Second Choice Team

LeBron James Cavaliers cavaliers Heat
Dwyane Wade Heat Heat
Chris Bosh Raptors Heat Bulls
Amare Stoudemire Suns Suns Knicks
Dirk Norwitzski Mavericks Nets Knicks
Joe Johnson Hawks Heat
Yao Ming Rockets Rockets
Ray Allen Celtics Celtic Celtics
Paul Pierce Celtics Celtics
Carlos Boozer Jazz Nets
David Lee Knicks Knicks
Tracey McGrady Knicks Harlem Globetrotters YMCA

Now that Avery Johnson may become the new Nets Coach, my choice of Dirk Nowitzski going to the Nets looks like pure genius. They are very familiar with each other and have mutual respect which makes working together much easier. I don’t see any of these free agents going to the Clippers but stranger things have happened. What I do know is that Tracy McGrady will not be employed next year. Not in the NBA. Not in China. Not in the Euro league or anywhere else. Paul Pierce will be in Boston. He is much too deeply rooted in Celtic history to go anywhere else. Not so for Ray Allen, he could go where an outside shooter is needed or retire. The Great Wall(Yao Ming) is not leaving Houston by any means.Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-11765351134440629172010-06-09T19:49:00.002-04:002010-06-09T19:52:35.959-04:00FREE AGENCY BUGFree Agency

All the talk has been centered on Lebron James, where will he go? Well I’ve been saying since last year that if he does not stay in Cleveland he would join Wade in Miami. Where else would he be able to join a seasoned vet who in dependable during crunch time. They both are unselfish team oriented who only want to win. If you notice on that list that there are only three people with rings and two of those are Celtics. The other is Dwyane Wade. Yes I am pro Wade. He is CLUTCH. Name two others on that list that are and you win a cigar.
Maybe LaBron did have a major distraction during the playoffs. But he is a big boy now and there are some things that he just can’t do anything about, and there are those he can. If he felt he could have…he should have and been done with it and moved on. You get my drift?
When all the movement is complete I would not be surprised to see Miami to have made out very well. If he does not make it to Miami, look for Bosh to be Wade’s new sidekick. They would also be able to get Joe Johnson at a good price. He lost Millions with that performance in the playoffs and then had the gall to follow that up with an attitude. He eliminated himself from a max level contract, which he didn’t warrant in the first place.
Carlos Boozer has been begging the Heat to take him but he is undersized. He has game, heart and intensity, but he is smallish. With Amare’ there has been mutual interest but the Suns have first dibs and are preparing to offer him a Max deal. Make no mistake of it Amare’ is good, very good. You just have to wonder if his stats are slightly inflated because of Nash’s ability to get him the ball. Besides defense is definitely not his forte.
But it is his ability to run the court that may land him in New York. Coach D’
Antoni know his assets and his limitations from their time together in Phoenix. They have the money to pay him and another max level free agent like Nowitzski. Amare’ can play the center position while Nowitzski runs the wing.
I like Chris Bosh in Miami if LaBron does not land there. I’ll take Bosh above Amare’ any day. He’s a better rebounder, better scorer, passer and defender. When it’s all said and done, some of these guys will remain with their present teams and others will team-up in pursuit of their championship dream.
Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-7042799329384483202010-04-18T20:35:00.003-04:002010-04-18T20:59:08.546-04:00Collapse of the HeatLack of support from other scorers besides Wade and Richardson were the primary reasons for our lost yesterday. Secondly, turnovers were the other reason this team failed. It is impossible for a team to be successful with that type of performance. Third, Spoelstra was out coached by Doc Rivers. I would not be surprised if there is a change on the sidelines for the upcoming season. I am a Heat fan to the core. The so called experts are predicting the games to be close, maybe go 7 games. I don’t see it that way. Five games max. That’s right 5 games. The Heat will win in 5.
Those that I see as the biggest threat to the Heat are Paul Pierce and Kendrick Perkins. Perkins is a threat because he can be such a beast inside and outside, offensively and defensively. Pierce because he is so hard to defend. He can score from anywhere on the floor and shoot at a high percentage all the while maintaining a professional attitude. Also Rondo can be a problem because of his hand and foot speed and overall court sense. He is very cerebral for such a young player.
The Heat has got to counter the experience of the Celtics with their momentum and their desire to succeed. All of these guys are not Tito’s and Marlon’s Jacksons. If Jermaine O’Neal starts this game, a win is guaranteed. There is no one on the Boston roster that can defend him. If he doesn’t start we will run pick and rolls with Anthony for at least 10points. Arroyo can control the games tempo and with Richardson and wright hitting the outside triple, the Heat will stay in the game. Beasley has got to stay out of foul trouble when guarding Garnett and hit his open jumpers. That leaves the title of this article, “Wade burns the Celtics”, and he will get his. He will get at least 35 points, 14 assist in the first game. He will average a minimum of 35 points per game and take the Celtics in 5.Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-16837918073926433362010-04-17T16:20:00.000-04:002010-04-17T16:29:04.206-04:00Hawks and BucksI’m starting this blog much too late to include the Cavaliers and the Chicago Bulls. I don’t believe the Bulls have a chance anyway. Cavaliers in 4.

In the game of the Bucks versus the Hawks, the Bucks have their work cut out for them. It would have been a better series if Bogut had not broken his arm. Brandon Jennings and John Salmons will make a strong showing regardless but I believe Jamaal Crawford and Josh Smith will over-power the Bucks. Crawford is a deadly scorer and Josh Smith is just too strong inside.
Besides Josh Smith the Bucks must content with Zaza Pachulia and Al Horford. If Ilvasova and Gradzuric step up and control the boards, the Bucks can win this series. If not, the Hawks will win in 6.Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-88789113622419891552010-04-16T22:48:00.000-04:002010-04-16T22:50:23.286-04:00Concern for the HeatThe biggest concern for the Heat entering the playoffs is two-fold:
1. The health of J. O.
2. Defense

These two factors will determine how all the dominoes fall for the Heat henceforth, What I mean by that is these factors will not only affect the play-offs, but the draft, who will be released and free agency.

II. I don’t believe how far the team goes in the post season will not be determined by seeding.
The health of the team and defense played by this team will carry the Heat. This Team is good enough to beat any team in the East but may require some luck to get by Orlando or Cleveland. If Miami plays good defense and hit their open shots, they can compete with anyone. Their problem is they start slowly, fall behind while missing easy shots and playing poor defense. This causes them to spend the first quarter trying to catch up, and no play their game.
I think the Heat will maintain their focus and defensive effort and reach the second round against Cleveland and fall in 6. If they manage to get by Cleveland, which is a long shot, they will win the title over Denver in 6. Wade, Haslem and Arroyo will have outstanding games.

III. I’ll star with who has to go; Jamaal Magloire, (can’t jump over a stamp), Diarawa, Alston, and James Jones.

Keepers are: Arroyo, Beasley, Haslem, Anthony, Wright and Wade.

The jury is still out on J.O. because of his knees and his contract. Chalmers may be a keeper because he is cheap and Richardson is useful when he’s interested. But for a reasonable price J.O is a keeper.Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-59052305482780126172010-01-03T19:54:00.000-05:002010-01-03T19:56:06.794-05:00Heat vs. SpursThe effort that was shown in this game was an embarrassment. Except for Michael Beasley all other should be in a team meeting for two hours because there are issues abound here. Beasley started the game on fire, had 20 points at the half but was rarely involved in the offense after that and ended the game with only 26 points. O’Neal ended with 6 points and 3 rebounds in 16 minutes, Richardson did not score, Arroyo had 5 points and Wade had only 16 points on a pedestrian 6-of-18 shooting. This followed a 6 turnover night in New Orleans versus the Hornets. This team also was out rebounded by the Spurs 43-25. The Heat should be ashamed of such an effort especially their leader D. Wade.
This is the way that I have assessed the situation that has befallen Wade. He has begun to get frustrated for not getting the Superstar calls that he has gotten accustomed to. He in turn has begun to be labeled a whiner, a complainer to the Refs. The Refs also has noticed his lackluster play and are making him earn those FREE throws. They seem to have taken the stance that they refuse to reward him for his behavior and lackadaisical play. That is my view of this very sensitive situation in a year that may prove pivotal to the future of the NBA, where wins and losses maybe influential in steering the direction of one or more of the leading free agents. Wade is a superior player one of the top three in the league right now, but that is no excuse for lack of execution and effort. My advice to you Dwyane is to stop complaining and let your play speak for itself.Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-14959048017317509172010-01-03T19:50:00.001-05:002010-01-03T19:54:20.989-05:00Heat vs. HornetsThe Heat came into this game with a three game win streak and I really expected the best. What I got was a horse of a totally different color. It was a lackluster and lackadaisical effort. Even with today’s guaranteed contracts, some of these guys should be worried about their jobs, about being cut on the court. Don’t get me wrong, I’m as big a Heat fan as anyone, a Wade fan from his days at Marquette. But this is their job and some of these guys don’t act as if it’s so except for Haslem. Haslem plays hard every play, every night and every game he earns his money. There is other that is on the bench that belongs there. Coach Spoelstra is mismanaging this team and the frustration is starting to spill over onto the court. It’s starting to show. If others cannot see this, then they are looking through rose-colored glasses. Even so I think the player should maintain their professionalism.Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-80166983393048692172009-12-19T19:38:00.001-05:002009-12-19T19:40:53.210-05:00Poof and the Magic disappearsWhew!! What a win. If ever the Heat needed a win this was it. The Heat has struggled mightily as of late. The team’s mantra was taking a hit. They were supposed to be a defensive team, yet quite a few teams had scored over 100 points recently. The Raptors were the only team held below that margin. All of those teams would not be considered members of the elite. Yet a number of those teams were running like at a track meet. The Heat had the Lakers’ beat but gave that one away. This game the Heat took control in the opening minutes. Again a quality showing from Michael Beasley with 22 points, 8 rebounds and one(1)personal foul. The reason I mention personal fouls is simple. You can’t score, rebound or defend if you are not on the court. Foul trouble has limited his playing time more than Coach Spoelstra. The return of Quinton Richardson was immediately felt with two early triples. Also, what were very encouraging were the showings of two onetime outcasts, Carlos Arroyo and Dorell Wright. If Carlos continues to perform at his present level Chalmers will have a hard time getting his starting position back. As for Dorell, you’ve come along way baby. I hope I’m not jumping the gun because Wright can break your heart. Early in his career you could see that he had potential, but potential does not a career make. You want survive long in the NBA on potential alone, unless your name is Kwame Brown. Injuries and lackadaisical effort hampered his growth. Wade had one of his best games in some time. He shot over 50%, had 25 points, 7 assist and did not have to play in the 4th quarter. The Heat needs as much confidence as possible with their upcoming schedule. They close out December with Portland, Utah, New Orleans and San Antonio of their six remaining games. I will stress again that Wade will crank up his game and get that bounce back in his legs now that Tim Grover has arrived in South Beach. His stats and the Heats record will improve.
If someone ask you to put money on it use monopoly money. I am!!Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-62135353985033407862009-12-17T13:52:00.000-05:002009-12-17T13:54:21.065-05:00Heat Runs Past RaptorsWe now know what the Heats up-tempo game looks like. Tuesday night the Heat put pressure on the Raptors from the opening jump. They pushed the pace on offense and pressured the Raptors on defense. Michael Beasley had an outstanding game with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Given the opportunity this kid could post a double-double every night. His performance over-shadowed another very good showing by Dorell Wright who added 16 points and 8 rebounds. Carlos Arroyo had another productive appearance with 12 points and 3 assist but most importantly 0 turnovers. Experiencing his first non-start of his career, Chalmers contributed 8 assist off the bench. There were five Heat players in double figures which mean Wade did not have to carry this team to victory but it was obtain with a group effort. Diawara followed Sunday’s game with another stinker. At least he scored his first points of the season. Jermaine did help with 4 rebounds but he has to do better and he is capable of a better showing. Wade finished with 19 points and 7 assist but again shot the ball poorly. His poor shooting percentage is a direct reflection of his inability to finish. He’s getting to the rim at will but seem not to have his usual lift in his legs. Another thing that I have noticed lately is Wade’s inability to get his usual calls from the referees. On more than one occasion he has driven in the lane and has been absolutely clobbered and failed to get the call from the refs. It appears to be a conscious effort by the refs to deny him these calls even when contact is blatant. WHY?Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-87800106507560158012009-12-15T13:18:00.002-05:002009-12-15T13:24:13.497-05:00Redskins massacre RaidersIn the first half of this game Oakland had a pulse. They resembled a football team. Bruce Gradkowski looked good. He moved the team, they scored and he had no turn-over’s the running game was slow but would pick up because of Bruce’s completions. The defense had to respect the pass. Not to say there weren’t a few lapses on defense because Washington should not have gotten a touchdown before half-time. This touchdown was aided by a flag for interfering with a punt returner’s ability to fair catch a ball. On top of that Oakland got penalized 15 additional yards for unsportsmanlike conduct for arguing the call.
The came the 2nd half, the clouds darkened as they descended upon the Earth, and the Earth rumbled, and tremble and the crowd cowered in fear as JaMarcus Russell ran onto the field. The mighty slayers of Bengals and crushers of Steel amassed a grand total of 39 yards on 29 plays in the second half. Russell was sacked 6 times, had an interception and one fumble. At the Post Game news conference Coach Cable was asked who would start next Sunday versus Denver, to which he responded “Let’s get to tomorrow”. But as Gary Peterson of the Oakland Tribune noted there is no tomorrow with Russell. When Russell entered the game the booing started. Whether it was coming from the stands or the bench is still being debated. There were even chants to bring on the third-string quarterback Charlie Frye. To be fair and just to other members of the team, Frye should star because they believe he gives them their best chance to succeed.Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-73615792984930853982009-12-12T17:55:00.000-05:002009-12-12T18:03:09.228-05:00Mavericks shoot down HeatAfter taking in the game with the Lakers I really was looking forward to the game between the Heat and the Mavericks. The way I figured it would be a tremendous opportunity for Miami to make an impression in the power rankings. I was right. They made an impression, a bad one. The Dallas defense was good but these guys aren’t the Celtics. The Heat shooting was pathetic, except for the production coming from Mr. reliable Udonis Haslem who was 9 out of 10 for 22 points and 10 rebounds. The only other player that shot over 50% was Anthony and he isn’t expected to make a huge impact in the scoring column. Wade shoot 33%, that’s totally unacceptable. Wade got in the lane at will but could not finish. He did rebound well, with 4 being offensive which makes for 2nd chance opportunities and points. He delivered on the line connecting at 80%. Beasley had a solid game, scoring 16 points with 11 rebounds. I thought with the return of Q. Richardson the outside shooting would pick up but he was a no show going 0 for 2 in only 7 minutes. I haven’t heard an injury report but only 7 minutes makes you wonder. His lack of production was solely missed. Who was missed even more was Jermaine O’Neal. With him out of the middle Erick Dampier had a career day with 20 points and 17 rebounds. He’s no All-Star by any stretch of the imagination but he sure made it look easy. O’Neal has to return Sunday for the game against Memphis so the Heat can get this Circus act together. Wade also need to take better shots and make the easy ones. That vaunted Miami defense has been non-existent lately, which has to improve if they expect to stay close to Atlanta. Don’t get me wrong Miami don’t give me any thoughts that they may over-take Atlanta. That would be dreaming. Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-49115103555550650622009-12-11T19:15:00.000-05:002009-12-11T19:28:09.394-05:00The Points of a Point GuardIn reference to “Handle a Handler”, an article in the Sun Sentinel in Miami, it relates to what Erik Spoelstra is doing with his Point Guards. I have no idea. True super Mario has been anything but super lately. His point totals are up, assist are down and the W’s have been few. In the few wins he didn’t make any meaningful contributions. As a point guard, his job is to try to control the tempo and pace of the game. Just like his numbers, he has flip-flopped his duties and role. The game is controlling him, dictating to him and he’s unable or lacks the skill and knowledge to reverse the trend. These are the times when an experienced back-up or mentor presence is needed. Initially I thought Arroyo was capable. I really have not backed off that premise, but Arroyo needs more playing time to get into the groove of the game. I believe they should start him over Mario, which may be a viable alternative. I do believe Wade could be a starting Point Guard and it wouldn’t take away from his scoring. He is a willing passer and rebounder. Triple doubles would be in his future frequently. Let Dorrell Wright can fall back and defend the opposing basket on the breaks.Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-89639229346881240472009-12-11T18:02:00.001-05:002009-12-15T13:26:13.348-05:00Heat Burns the Kings
The suddenly hot Heat took advantage of a bevy of opportunities and scorched the Kings behind 34 points from Dwayne Wade. Sure those 34 pts. Were big but what was even bigger was the 20 points apiece from Beasley and Quinton Richardson. There have been many nights when Wade scored over 30 points but without support from his teammates they lost. It was good to see the return of Richardson because the Heat has not had any help from three point range lately. The Heat shot over 50%, nearly, 60% from the field and was only out rebounded by one. To put it straight, the Heat competed. When they compete and play hard it yields positive results. This was done without the presence of Jermaine O’Neal. To rebound well and shoot a high percentage without your big man is a sure sign of overall improvement in all areas. THROUGH IT ALL SPOELTRA STILL CAN’T COACH WORTH A DAMN!!!!!!!

The point guard needs to be fixed. We should resign Rafer Alston. Or get Tinsley. I like Juan Dixon’s ability but he’s to short. Bobby Jackson ahs ability but he’s a little long in the tooth. Quinn just wont do besides Lucas III is about to take his job. Chalmer’s can’t guard anyone. He and Quinn were repeatedly beaten by Bynum and Stuckey. Both of you has had a year of experience and still can’t defend nor hit your shots.
Y’ALL GOT SOME EXPLAINING TO DO. Wright’s stats are ugly. How many chances is this kid gonna get?I admit its early pre-season but he should have been on the bus two years ago. Before the bus leaves lets see if we can get Yakhouba Diawara on it, please. Diawara came in as a defensive specialist. He hasn’t done a damn thing. Wright came with fanfare also. He looked good for a minute. Both of these guys GOT SOME EXPLAINING TO DO. Two fouls hampered Haslem but he was still the only player other than Wade to get to double figures. What the hell happened to Jermaine O’neal? He played 22 minutes and pulled down one(1) rebound. That one probably hit him in his hands. He got that in the first 50 seconds. You cannot explain to me how a man at that height can play that long and get a single rebound. Jermaine GOT SOME EXPLAINING TO DO. Will somebody tell the “Big Cat” Magloire that it is only a pre-season game? He seemed not being able to wait to hurt the team. Your idiotic behavior could result in a number of regular season games suspensions. With the bounty of talent on the other teams in the Eastern Division, we cannot afford to fall too far behind. Your stupid a_ _ actions, believe it or not, could cause us games. YOU GOT SOME EXPLAINING TO DO.Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-38632136764258097292009-10-07T14:22:00.000-04:002009-10-07T14:23:23.396-04:00Amanti Edwards update #2Appalachian State defeated the Citadel Saturday 30-27 in overtime. This was a game where neither team could stop the other from scoring. If Appalachian State can shore up their defense they will be hard to deal with. If they win another FCS championship they will be moving to FBS. They could compete each week in the MAC, Sun Belt and C-USA.
Armanti’s stats for this past week were as follows 22-29 for 327 yards and 1td. He rushed for 80 yds, 2tds on 10 carries. For the year he has thrown for 756yds, rushed for 169 yards and 5 touchdowns with no interceptions in three games. He is App. States career leader 7,852 yards. Not bad, not bad at all.
This man is good he deserves more press and will be a factor in next year’s draft. PUT MONEY ON IT!!!!!!Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-30120986847890979292009-10-07T12:33:00.000-04:002009-10-07T12:34:31.843-04:00Cal vs USCI was under the impression that this game was going to be a shootout. Well it was…. kind of. You see while USC firing away, old Cali was using paint balls which only made the game ugly I think you get my drift. Just as California out classed Maryland in its first game, USC pounded them. I guess what goes around comes around. This game was down right embarrassing by half-time.Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-81486610754594500942009-10-05T19:15:00.001-04:002009-10-05T19:17:29.390-04:00Oklahoma vs MiamiAt the beginning of this game, I was wondering if the Miami players were taking money. Never have I seen as many players whiff on tackles and jams at the line of scrimmage. The same cornerback completely missed their receiver that they were supposed to jam at the line. Fortunately only one resulted in a touchdown. It was bad enough Jacory Harris was floating the ball instead of putting more zip on the ball. Piss poor tackling, Piss poor and offside’s penalties; these are the recipes for disaster. At present it is 14 minutes left before half time with the score 7-0. Miami is fortunate to be still in the game. But someone should check Sam Shields bank account and see if there has been any resent large deposit.
Its half time with the score 10-7 Oklahoma; there may be a chance for Miami after all. No more entries until after the game.

MIAMI STUNS #8 OKLAHOMA 21-20

T o quote Randy Shannon “Big, huge win for us”. Jacory Harris threw for 3 touchdowns on a night that was marred by interceptions on the team’s first two possessions. On each of those possessions Miami was moving the ball aggressively on the ground before Jacory got greedy. Though Oklahoma scored the first ten points, Miami was controlling the game until a bonehead roughing the punter penalty call against the Hurricanes. It was 4th and long on that play that resulted in a first down. What would have been Miami ball with a lead of 21-10 turned into touchdown for Oklahoma to close the score to 21-17. Oklahoma later scored another field goal but was unable to garner the lead from Miami.
The ‘Canes rebounded from a crushing loss to Va Tech, in Blacksburg Virginia, in the mud, to upset the Sooners. I still believe that Miami could beat the Hokies on a dry field but the record speaks for its self.Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-36339788555375565662009-10-01T15:27:00.000-04:002009-10-01T15:28:44.275-04:00Favre ….. A Prayer answeredTo listen to the football analyst Sunday and all day Monday, Favre was being Favre. Whatever that means, like whom else can he be? The accolades don’t belong to Favre, they belong to Greg Lewis, the receiver that made a magnificent catch.
What was the pass?
1). Hail Mary __
2). Prayer __Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-68014033884890534692009-10-01T15:11:00.000-04:002009-10-01T15:12:59.215-04:00Oh Where, Oh Where has Garcia gone.I watched the Raiders and Broncos game Sunday and got sick to my stomach. My wife has removed all sharp objects from the home. What the hell is JaMarcus Russell doing? He has shown no accuracy or touch on the ball. He is holding up the team’s progress. Opposing defenses are loading up on the line of scrimmage due to the lack of a running game. With little or no threat of a passing game they are shutting down the run. The passing game must improve for this team to have any success this season. I had envisioned this team winning the Western Division with an adequate passing game and an impressive running game. The defense is good enough to compete each week with some improvement along the way but they cannot spend 80% of the game on the field. My advice to Al Davis is to spit out the CROW and resign Jeff Garcia. We can win with this man. Davis and Cable can’t wait until the season is lost to make a change. Philly’s released Garcia is an omen. Resign him and insert him into the staring line-up ASAP.Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-22591457994720176702009-09-17T18:12:00.002-04:002009-09-17T18:14:16.212-04:00The Patch-eyed Pirates are back!!!!!!The Oakland Raiders dominated the Chargers from the opening bell. It was sickening to not see it last the entire 60 minutes. For a die-hard Raider fan, the ending was very painful to watch. Darren McFadden and Michael Bush ran roughshod over this much heralded lot. Our offensive line punished the Chargers and our defense pushed the Chargers offensive line around. The Raiders pick-up of Richard Seymore was a genius move. If he performs close to his performance Monday, this will help that defense greatly and make others players better. He was by far the most dominate player on the field. Watching the hitting in this game gave me flashbacks of games of yore. Jack Tatum and George Atkinson immediately came to mind. Then POOF…back to the future. The Raiders stopped running the ball. The Corners played to far off the ball which gave Phillip Rivers too much area to throw the ball and throw it he did. What the HELL happened!!!! This game was there for the taking even with this madness. I get pissed thinking about it. We should have won this damn game. I had mixed emotions when Jamarcus Russell went down. He wasn’t doing shit anyway. If he weren’t so erratic, the Raiders could have scored at least 35 points. The zebras stole one touchdown. I understand the rule leaves room for interpretation, but this is crazy;
Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3, Item 1 of the NFL Rule Book (page 51) states that “if a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact with an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.”
Here’s the problem as I see it. Murphy was no longer in the act of catching the pass, He was already in possession of the ball, and the act was complete. The ball was not moving as the video plainly showed, he never loss control of the ball until the ball itself struck the ground. TOUCHDOWN. Even with this HOOCUS POOCUS, with consistent play at the quarterback position Oakland wins this game. San Diego does not have a walk over in this division.
“FEAR THE SHIELD”Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7567727264149137927.post-5216920565525132952009-09-17T14:06:00.002-04:002009-09-17T14:08:27.291-04:00Armanti Edwards – Update # 1Appalachian State loss 40-35 to Mcneese State Saturday. After a 79 yard, 10 play drive to even the score at35, McNeese scored a field goal and a safety to win by 5. Appalachain State was led by Armanti Edwards. Edwards engineered the Mountaineers to 493 yards of total offense. Edwards ran 72 yards on 13 carries and passed for 235 yards on 19-25 attempts, for a total of 307 yards. Appalachian State score 28 points in the second half after watching their high powered offense sputter to one touchdown in the first half. The 298 total yards of total offense moved Edwards up three spots into 16th place in the NCAA division 1 FCS history with 11,061 total yards in his career.
The Mountaineers are off this week before returning to the gridiron on the 26th against Samford.Sherman Mauricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01973264591119917246noreply@blogger.com0
